The inaugural Rhythm & Roots Asian Festival and Night Market shines a spotlight on the rich diversity, cultural heritage, and creative energy of Saskatchewan’s Asian-Canadian communities. More than just a celebration, it’s a platform for connection, expression, and storytelling—especially through the voices of youth and emerging cultural leaders who are shaping the future of Asian representation in the province.
From traditional dances and live performances to food, fashion shows, and family-friendly fun, Rhythm & Roots brings together the best of old and new in a vibrant indoor-outdoor experience you won’t want to miss!
Event Highlights
KUMINTANG FOLKDANCE ENSEMBLE
The heart of Rhythm & Roots, the Kumintang Folk Dance Ensemble (KFE) is the official dance troupe of FILCAS and the highlight of this year’s festival. Featuring dancers as young as 8 and as seasoned as their early 20s, KFE brings traditional Filipino dances to life with energy, grace, and cultural pride.
Audiences can look forward to stunning performances of fan favourites like Tinikling (Philippines’ national dance) and Singkil (Maranao royal dance)—plus a few exciting new numbers debuting this year. Don’t miss your chance to join the fun and try Tinikling.
LIVING SKY TAIKO
Feel the rhythm with Living Sky Taiko, Saskatoon’s Taiko drumming performance group! Founded in 2009, this powerful ensemble brings the traditional Japanese art of taiko to life through high-energy, heart-pounding performances.
Known for their dynamic stage presence and deep cultural roots, Living Sky Taiko has performed at events across Saskatoon and beyond.

NON-STOP ENTERTAINMENT
The R&R Stage will be alive all weekend long with a dynamic lineup of talented acts from across the local Asian-Canadian community.
Enjoy live music from talented Filipino singers and bands, high-energy performances by the Flip Kidz hip hop dance crew, martial arts demos from Ferrer Martial Arts, and a dazzling drag show by Bahay Kubo. Plus, catch cultural showcases by the Filipino Heritage School, fashion shows, and festive parades that celebrate both tradition and self-expression.
You'll also experience performances from a range of Asian cultures, each adding to the rich tapestry of traditions that make Rhythm & Roots a truly one-of-a-kind celebration.
